One of the most exclusive hypercars of the modern era is set to cross the auction block this August. Chassis #001 of the Bugatti Bolide, the inaugural production model of just 40 units worldwide, will be auctioned by Gooding & Company during Monterey Car Week on August 15–16 at Pebble Beach.

    A Track-Only Masterpiece

First unveiled in 2020 as a no-compromise, track-focused concept, the Bolide quickly went from design experiment to highly coveted reality after intense interest from Bugatti collectors. Engineered without the restrictions of road legality, the Bolide pushes performance to new extremes with 1,600 horsepower from an 8.0-liter quad-turbocharged W16—a powerplant that has defined Bugatti’s engineering legacy.

With a featherweight dry mass of just 3,086 pounds, the Bolide boasts a blistering 0–62 mph time of 2.2 seconds and can generate nearly 6,600 lbs of downforce at top speed—figures rarely seen outside of motorsport.

    Chassis #001: A Collector’s Dream

The specific car headed to auction, Chassis #001, carries significant importance as the first Bolide ever delivered to a customer. Painted in French Racing Blue with contrasting Nocturne Black exposed carbon fiber, it features the Bolide’s distinctive X-design motifs, which reference historic aircraft aesthetics and Bugatti’s design heritage.

Originally delivered to teamcjworks in Texas, the car has logged only 389 miles on the track and remains in immaculate condition. Its estimated auction price sits between $4.5 million and $6 million USD—though, as the first production example of this ultra-limited series, it could exceed expectations.

A Pinnacle of Modern Bugatti Engineering

The Bolide marks a bold and final expression of the W16 era as Bugatti prepares for a hybridized future. With only 40 units produced globally, each originally priced around $4.8 million USD, Chassis #001 represents more than just exclusivity—it stands as a milestone in hypercar evolution.

For collectors and motorsport enthusiasts alike, this is more than an auction—it’s a chance to own a piece of automotive history.
