Bonhams is set to auction a legendary piece of automotive history: the 1998 Porsche 911 Type 993 Turbo Coupé, known as “The Last Waltz.” This car represents a milestone for Porsche, being the final air-cooled 911 produced during the model’s original run.
Commissioned by German author Clauss Vanderborg through Porsche’s Sonderwunsch (Special Wishes) department, “The Last Waltz” is finished in striking Ocean Blue and features an upgraded 443 hp engine, identical to the Turbo S. The interior is trimmed in luxurious Night Blue leather, and a commemorative plaque on the dashboard honors Porsche’s founder, Ferry Porsche, who passed away on the day the car was completed.
Finished on March 27, 1998, just before Jerry Seinfeld’s Mexico Blue Carrera 4S, this car remained at the factory for six months for customization, marking it as the final air-cooled 911 customer car. With only 11,000 kilometers on the odometer, it has been meticulously preserved and passed through collectors in Japan, Belgium, and the UK.
The auction, taking place at the Goodwood Revival on September 7, coincides with the 50th anniversary of the Porsche 911 Turbo. The car is expected to fetch between £800,000 GBP and $1,050,000 USD. A letter from Porsche confirming its status as the last air-cooled 911 produced will accompany the vehicle.
