Audeze has officially unveiled the CRBN2, the second iteration of its highly regarded electrostatic headphones, introducing cutting-edge technology known as SLAM. This advancement builds on the success of its predecessor while offering audiophiles an enhanced listening experience.

Founded in 2008 with a mission to integrate NASA technology into high-resolution audio products, Audeze is renowned for producing premium headphones. The CRBN2 incorporates all the features that made the original model a favorite, while introducing SLAM—short for Symmetric Linear Acoustic Modulator. This patent-pending technology promises “unprecedented transparency and bass response,” working in tandem with the headphones’ electrostatic drivers to create an immersive soundscape that Audeze describes as “deeply tactile.” The innovative design isolates and enhances low frequencies for remarkably clean and clear bass, pushing the boundaries of electrostatic technology.

    Understanding Electrostatic Headphones

Electrostatic headphones utilize a unique driver design that sets them apart from traditional headphones. Instead of metal coils and magnets, these drivers use an ultra-thin, statically charged film sandwiched between perforated metal sheets. This configuration enables a more responsive and efficient sound production, resulting in clean, natural audio free from distortion. Originally developed for MRI machines, Audeze collaborated with the UCLA School of Medicine during the creation of its first model, the CRBN.

With the CRBN2, Audeze has also launched a new generation of ultra-thin carbon-nanotube electrostatic drivers, enhancing audio accuracy and immersion.

    Technical Specifications

The CRBN2 boasts an impressive frequency response of 10 Hz to 40 kHz and weighs approximately 480g (17 ounces). Like all electrostatic headphones, it requires a high-voltage amplifier (580V) for operation. The earpads are crafted from supple premium leather, while the headband combines carbon fiber and leather for added comfort.

Despite being acquired by Sony in 2023, Audeze continues to operate independently, manufacturing all drivers in its Orange County, California facility. Each CRBN2 is meticulously assembled by hand and rigorously tested by Audeze’s electrostatic specialists.

    Availability

If you’re interested in the CRBN2, you can join the official waitlist on Audeze’s website. The headphones are priced at $5,995 USD, offering audiophiles an exceptional listening experience.
