The ASUS ROG Ally X is now available worldwide starting July 22, directly through Asus online and Best Buy for $799.99 USD.
In celebration of the ROG Ally X’s launch, Asus has introduced an updated version of its Armoury Crate Special Edition (ACSE) software, known as ACSE 1.5. This new software iteration includes enhancements aimed at delivering a more console-like user interface, along with new customization options for game profiles. It also incorporates features such as gyro support and calibration adjustments, addressing requests from Asus users. ACSE 1.5 is now accessible for both the ROG Ally X and the original ROG Ally handhelds.
Following much anticipation, ASUS has officially unveiled the next generation of its popular ROG Ally handheld gaming PC. The new ROG Ally X boasts several upgrades to its already powerful predecessor, including faster RAM, increased internal storage capacity, and notably, doubled battery life.
Similar to its predecessor, the ROG Ally X operates on Windows 11 and is powered by the Ryzen Z1 Extreme Processor. This chipset, also featured in the upper-tier version of the first ROG Ally, is complemented by upgraded 24GB of LPDDR5X RAM, significantly enhancing overall performance and gameplay compared to the previous 16GB configuration. Additionally, the console now includes a larger 1TB SSD using M.2 2280 format, which allows for easier user upgrades compared to the previous model’s M.2 2230 SSDs.
The device retains its high-definition 1080p display with a 120Hz refresh rate, known for its crisp visuals and smooth gaming experience. Although fans might have hoped for an OLED upgrade, ASUS has instead improved cooling with smaller, more efficient fans that increase airflow by up to 24% through a new third vent. This innovation helps maintain device temperatures up to 6°C cooler during extended gameplay sessions.
Ergonomic enhancements include new joysticks for enhanced precision and ease of replacement, with plans to offer Hall-effect sticks separately through third-party collaborations. The addition of two USB-C ports addresses a common gamer request for enhanced connectivity options.
A standout feature of the ROG Ally X is its upgraded battery, now doubling capacity from 40 Wh to 80 Wh. This enhancement promises longer gaming sessions on a single charge, benefitting from the device’s improved efficiency due to enhanced RAM and cooling.
The ASUS ROG Ally X is currently available for pre-order on the official ASUS website, offering gamers a highly anticipated upgrade to their handheld gaming experience.
