Seiko has unveiled a stunning new addition to its Presage Craftsmanship Series, the SPB495J1, featuring a beautiful white enamel dial with Roman numerals. This timepiece not only highlights Seiko’s rich history in precision timekeeping but also draws inspiration from the brand’s early railroad watches, making it a tribute to both tradition and craftsmanship.
The SPB495J1 is deeply rooted in Seiko’s legacy. The design is reminiscent of the 1895 Timekeeper pocket watch, one of the brand’s earliest forays into the world of accurate timekeeping. The reference to this historical creation underscores Seiko’s enduring commitment to precision. Additionally, the timepiece is a nod to the brand’s 1929 Type 19 Pocket Watch, Japan’s first officially designated railroad watch. These railroad watches were designed for maximum legibility and accuracy, features that are faithfully replicated in the new Presage.
The dial of the SPB495J1 captures the essence of the original Timekeeper, featuring a white enamel finish and a rail track design circling the perimeter. The Roman numerals are elegantly balanced with a metallic blue handset, adding a subtle yet striking pop of color to the otherwise clean and classic look.
At the heart of this watch lies Seiko’s in-house 6R5H automatic movement, which offers a 24-hour indicator at 6 o’clock, a three-day power reserve, and an accuracy rate of -15/+25 seconds per day. The timepiece is completed with a premium black calf leather strap, sourced from a Leather Working Group (LWG)-certified tanner, ensuring both quality and sustainability.
Now available for pre-order on Seiko’s Boutique website, the SPB495J1 is priced at £1,280 GBP (approximately $1,576 USD). A true homage to Seiko’s heritage, this timepiece combines impeccable craftsmanship with a timeless design.
