However, what garnered her more attention was her shift from being a successful Vogue fashion model to becoming a powerful force shaping the entertainment space in the Caribbean.
She was the first Bahamian model to grace the pages of Italian Vogue, and become signed by Elite Model Management. She has become a leading example, especially for up-and-comers committed to revolutionizing the Caribbean TV and film industry.
Speaking more about her journey, Stephanie K. Nihon says, “Was my journey filled with challenges – Yes. But, was it all worth it – a big Yes. My journey began in The Bahamas, where Elite NYC scouted me at a local event, leading me into modeling. This allowed me to work with prominent figures like Steven Meisel. My first job being with Italian VOGUE and second for the D&G campaign as a newcomer catapulted me to more exciting work and recognition. Today, my heart is filled with gratitude for these opportunities, which ignited the fire in me to shift behind the camera, to being in front of the camera to creating opportunities for others through my production company, LFD Productions.”
The opportunities Nihon got through modeling allowed her to travel the world and meet incredibly talented professionals. By then, she already knew there was more to her and much more to achieve in life, which made her envision a future where new talents could get a chance to prove their skills. By leveraging her connections, she transformed her career from a model to a CEO by venturing into photography, design, scouting, collaborating with a talent agency to production, pioneering local projects, creating an award-winning TV series, to getting her first raise. Through her connections she booked Bahamian models and actors for exciting roles like VOGUE spreads and Netflix series.
This eventually helped her launch LFD Productions, which today is an award-winning company for showcasing the hidden talents of her small country to the world. Her company recently hosted The Cays Conference, a red-carpet scouting and modeling event featuring top agents, aspiring models, and actors worldwide. With sponsors like Grey Goose, Bacardi and The Ministry of Tourism, The Cays Conference gained enormous success as an event to offer aspiring talents a chance to get discovered. She has managed to place over 30 Bahamian models and actors with renowned international agencies who are now working for top networks, designers, movie studios, magazines, and brands worldwide.
Besides all this, Stephanie K. Nihon is known for her cherished project “Goombay Kids,” the #1 rated live-action children’s show in The Bahamas and the Caribbean, which so far has received global acclaim with 14 awards, including the Best TV Series at the prestigious Cannes world Film Festival. It has already completed four successful seasons and acquired a historic North American streaming deal for the region.
