After more than 20 years, the iconic collaboration between Japanese artist Takashi Murakami and Louis Vuitton is back, more colorful and exciting than ever. Originally launched in 2003 by then-creative director Marc Jacobs, Murakami’s signature rainbow-hued Monogram pattern and playful characters, including the cherry-blossom face, took the fashion world by storm. This partnership was a groundbreaking moment for Louis Vuitton, marking the first time the house had ever altered its classic Monogram canvas.

Since then, the Louis Vuitton x Murakami collection has become one of the most successful and coveted collaborations in fashion history, with stars like Naomi Campbell, Kendall Jenner, and Zendaya often spotted sporting vintage pieces. Now, for Spring 2025, Louis Vuitton is bringing this iconic partnership back, offering a joyful new collection that is available for purchase this month. To star in the campaign, Louis Vuitton has tapped fan-favorite Zendaya.

The new collection stays true to Murakami’s signature “kawaii” (cute) aesthetic, featuring his take on the classic Monogram in 33 vibrant hues. The lineup includes iconic bags like the Speedy, Keepall, Dauphine, and OnTheGo, along with Murakami-print belts, wallets, shoes, and even a skateboard. A made-to-order wardrobe trunk containing 33 Speedy bags is also part of the range.

Murakami’s work often explores themes of commercialism, pop culture, and the intersection of tradition and innovation, drawing from sci-fi, anime, and Japanese art. Reflecting on the original collaboration, Murakami says, “Looking back now, I really feel there were various significances. At the time, I had no idea what kind of brand Louis Vuitton really was, and I didn’t understand the impact of changing the products’ classic base color to pure white. But now, I can see that changing it from something purely chic into something colorful really made a big impact.”

This new collection marks a vibrant new chapter in the collaboration, blending Murakami’s whimsical, artistic flair with Louis Vuitton’s timeless luxury.
