Jessie Buckley Claims BAFTA Glory in Custom Blue Chanel

Victory never looked so vivid. At the 2026 British Academy Film Awards, Jessie Buckley took home the award for Best Leading Actress and marked the milestone in a commanding shade of blue that has quickly become her signature on the awards circuit.

Arriving at London’s Southbank Centre’s Royal Festival Hall, the Hamnet star stepped onto the red carpet in a custom Chanel gown designed by Matthieu Blazy. The velvet creation, rendered in a rich sapphire tone, featured a dramatic cowl back that cascaded fluidly behind her. The dress was adapted from a design first unveiled in Chanel’s 2026 Métiers d’art collection, reimagined to suit Buckley’s distinctive red-carpet presence.

Her version refined the runway silhouette with a sleeveless cut and a subtly adjusted waistline, enhancing its sculptural elegance. Silver floral embellishments adorned each shoulder, catching the light and adding a delicate counterpoint to the bold color and luxurious texture.

The evening marked another high point in Buckley’s awards-season journey. In her acceptance speech, she dedicated her win to the women who shaped her path, past and present, before turning her gratitude to director Chloé Zhao. With visible emotion, she praised Zhao’s uncompromising artistry and historic storytelling—a tribute that underscored the collaborative spirit behind her performance.

This was not the first time Buckley celebrated in blue. Earlier in the season, she secured her first Golden Globe for Hamnet, wearing a baby-blue silk Dior gown designed by Jonathan Anderson. Styled by Danielle Goldberg, that asymmetrical look—with its off-the-shoulder drape and diamond accents—cemented blue as her clear lucky charm.

From velvet Chanel grandeur at the BAFTAs to ethereal Dior at the Globes, Buckley’s awards-season wardrobe tells a cohesive story: confident, refined, and unmistakably her own. As accolades continue to follow, so too does a color palette that now seems inseparable from her winning streak.
