The first Monday in May has once again brought glamour, creativity, and cultural expression to the steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. The 2025 Met Gala is officially underway, and this year’s theme, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” has already made an unforgettable statement on the red carpet.
This year’s exhibit explores the legacy of Black dandyism and its influence on fashion from the 18th century to today, inspired by Monica L. Miller’s seminal book Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity. The corresponding dress code, “Tailored for You,” pays homage to menswear and suiting traditions, reinterpreted through personal and cultural expression.
With Louis Vuitton sponsoring the event—an apt choice given Pharrell Williams’ role as creative director of menswear—the 2025 Gala is as much a celebration of craft as it is of individuality. Celebrities from music, film, fashion, and sports embraced the theme with bold, bespoke looks curated to honor heritage and style.
