BMW has unveiled its latest marvel in high-performance engineering: the M4 CS. Positioned between the M4 Competition Coupé and the M4 CSL, this special edition model promises to deliver an exhilarating driving experience while maintaining practicality for everyday use.
Under the hood, the M4 CS is powered by a tuned 3-liter twin-turbo inline six engine, churning out an impressive 550 horsepower and capable of accelerating from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.4 seconds. Derived from BMW’s M3/M4 range, this engine has been extensively fine-tuned for optimal track performance, drawing from the success of its race-bred counterparts in competitions like the DTM and various 24-hour races.
Enhancing its performance capabilities is the eight-speed M Steptronic transmission paired with BMW’s M xDrive all-wheel-drive system. The car’s agility and dynamic handling were put to the test at the Nürburgring, where it clocked an impressive lap time of 7 minutes and 21.989 seconds.
In terms of construction, the M4 CS makes extensive use of carbon fiber-reinforced plastic (CFRP) to reduce weight, particularly in key areas such as the roof, hood, and aerodynamic components. This not only improves performance but also enhances the car’s visual appeal, highlighting its racing pedigree.
Inside the cabin, luxury and technology abound. The M4 CS features M Carbon bucket seats, a BMW Curved Display with M-specific readouts, and the latest BMW iDrive system. Additionally, it comes equipped with the M Drive Professional package, offering features like a Drift Analyzer, Lap Timer, and M Traction Control, making it equally suitable for track days and daily commutes.
Production of the BMW M4 CS is set to commence at the BMW Group Plant Dingolfing in July, with orders opening by the end of May.
