Patrick Mahomes, the star quarterback of the Kansas City Chiefs, recently revealed his role in the budding romance between Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce, asserting himself as the “matchmaker” behind their relationship. In an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show, Mahomes disclosed how he facilitated Kelce’s attendance at Swift’s concert, sparking the initial connection between the two.
“I’d like to take some of the credit,” Mahomes, 28, confessed during the interview. “I was the one who invited Travis to the first Taylor concert with the friendship bracelet. He was sitting in my suite.”
Kelce, 34, attended Swift’s Eras tour in Kansas City in July 2023 and later mentioned the experience on his podcast, “New Heights.” Despite his desire to present Swift with a friendship bracelet after the show, Kelce discovered that the pop star refrained from interacting with fans before or after performances to preserve her voice.
Mahomes, however, encouraged Kelce to seize the opportunity, urging him to pursue the gesture. “I was like, ‘Dude, you should go for it. Just go for it,'” Mahomes recounted. “And you know Travis, man. He does it. He’s a great dude. I’m glad it’s all worked out for the best.”
Swift confirmed the blossoming relationship during a December 2023 interview with Time magazine, acknowledging that she and Kelce “started hanging out right after” he mentioned her on his podcast.
Mahomes’ revelation sheds light on the behind-the-scenes dynamics that led to one of the most talked-about celebrity relationships, demonstrating the unexpected ways in which friendships and connections can shape romantic outcomes.
