Victoria Maria Carrera’s story is one of resilience, compassion and faith. She recalls how she faced a difficult upbringing, which instilled in her more empathy, leading her to intimately understand the struggles many children in foster care endure. She is determined in her life’s mission – to stand in the gap for vulnerable youth and offer them support, hope and opportunities they may not otherwise have. Today, she is a proud Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) for children in New Mexico, who tirelessly advocates for their well-being and the future of those who need it most. It is her personal struggles and experiences in life, she says, that have fuelled her passion to do what she’s doing but also uniquely positioned her to make a meaningful difference in countless young lives.
It could’ve been easier for Victoria to lead to a darker path because of her life’s challenges, but she chose to rise above those circumstances, drawing strength from her faith in God and a deep desire to help others. She says, “Keeping my faith in God at the centre of my life has been my guiding light. It has given me the strength to overcome my own hardships and inspire others to do the same.” Through her incredible work for children, she seeks to not only advocate for children but also to empower them to envision and achieve better and brighter futures. Also, her mission extends far beyond advocacy as she envisions a future where children and teens in foster care gain easy access to essential resources, from education to job opportunities.
Victoria Carrera’s goal is to create a structured network that provides real-world skills, mentoring and the road to independence. Speaking on the same, the compassionate soul states, “I want to keep providing children and teens with more resources and opportunities. Whether it is helping them find jobs or supporting their educational pursuits, I wish to continue walking my path to show them the path by empowering them in ways more than one and providing them with the tools they need to succeed.” This has helped her stand distinctive from others. Not just emotional support but also her hands-on approach to creating tangible and lasting change has further propelled her forward in the industry.

The world often sees stigmas attached for children in foster care, but Victoria’s work offers a rare and invaluable gift of unconditional acceptance.
