Suni Lee has once again made headlines with her stellar performance, clinching a bronze medal in the women’s uneven bars final at the Paris 2024 Olympics. This latest achievement marks Lee’s third medal at these Games, adding to her gold from the team final and bronze from the individual all-around final. Her reaction to winning bronze was captured in heartwarming photos, showcasing her surprise and joy.
The 21-year-old gymnast secured her podium position with a score of 14.8, placing behind China’s Qiu Qiyuan with a 15.5 and Algeria’s Kaylia Nemour, who took gold with a 15.7. Lee’s achievement is a testament to her resilience and talent, especially given the challenges she faced leading up to the Games.
Lee’s path to Paris has been anything but smooth. In April 2023, she announced an early departure from Auburn University due to a serious kidney condition, and by September, the illness had forced her out of the world championship team selection. It wasn’t until January 2024 that her doctor confirmed her treatment was effective.
Despite these obstacles, Lee remained determined, attributing her success to the support of her loved ones. “There were so many times when I thought about quitting and just giving up because I was so sick,” Lee shared with Today. “But once I had those people around me who lifted me up and supported me and just made sure that I was good, I knew that this is something I wanted.”
Lee’s growing collection of Olympic medals, now totaling six, reflects her incredible journey and perseverance. She has garnered support from high-profile fans, including Kendall Jenner, Eva Mendes, and Ryan Gosling. Next up, Lee will compete in the balance beam final on August 5, as she continues her remarkable Olympic run.
