Prince William recently shared that he chose not to attend the Olympics in Paris earlier this year to safeguard his wife, Princess Catherine, as she underwent preventative chemotherapy for cancer.
During an event celebrating the reopening of the Birtley Community Pool in Tyne and Wear, British Olympic swimmer Tom Dean asked William if he had made it to Paris. The prince responded, “No, I was so keen to come, but I decided, because my wife was obviously having chemo, that I didn’t want to risk bringing Covid home.”
William’s decision came after hearing about swimmer Adam Peaty’s positive Covid test during the Games, reminding him of the ongoing risks.
Earlier this year, Kate announced her cancer diagnosis following abdominal surgery and began chemotherapy treatment. On September 9, she shared a heartfelt video confirming she is now cancer-free, expressing relief and emphasizing her focus on staying healthy for her family. “Life as you know it can change in an instant,” she noted, reflecting on the challenges faced over the past months.
