Dua Lipa unveiled her latest single, “Training Season,” during a high-energy performance at the Grammys, giving fans a taste of what’s to come in her upcoming era. Produced by Kevin Parker, the track is a funky, pop-infused anthem that marks the end of bad dates and the beginning of a new chapter for the Grammy-winning artist.
Teasing the single on January 22 with a selfie in a “Training Season” sweater during Grammys rehearsals, Dua Lipa later shared a snippet of the song with her text subscribers on January 24. The inspiration behind the track? A string of bad dates, culminating in a moment of clarity for the artist.
In a statement, Dua revealed, “I had been on a string of bad dates, and the last one was the final straw. The next morning I arrived to the studio…and I immediately declared ‘Training season is over.'” With collaborators Caroline Ailin and Tobias Jesso Jr., the song quickly came together, reflecting Dua’s newfound confidence and empowerment.
While “Training Season” addresses the frustrations of dating, particularly for women, it also speaks to personal growth and empowerment. Dua expressed, “It is also about my training season being over and me growing with every experience… You stop looking for the trainees and become more interested in having someone where you are and someone to grow with.”
With its infectious beat and empowering lyrics, “Training Season” marks a new chapter for Dua Lipa, signaling the end of bad dates and the beginning of self-assurance and growth.
