For anyone driven to create, receiving positive feedback on our manifestations is one of life’s most wonderful pleasures. Over the past two decades, visionary designer Erin Sarofsky has built a highly successful production company to collaborate with a Who’s Who of motion picture studios, brands, and filmmakers. Those thrilling experiences of learning how to engage audiences are now paying off in a captivating new original project.
For a bit more background, when DALL-E, Midjourney, and Stable Diffusion burst onto the scene in 2022 making AI art available to the masses, Erin immediately ran toward the fire – an impulse that has historically set her apart in her field. Beloved among her dearest for her sublime knitting and craftsmanship with yarn, felt, and fibers, her unique experimentation with Midjourney quickly led to the birth of her very first Skrimps. Her first Skrimps were close to home – her family were her first subjects.
“People know me mostly as a designer, director, and studio owner, but my hobbies include fiber art and comedy,” Erin begins. “Those in the inner inner circle know I am also quite political. So these little creations are the culmination of my interests. They are so uniquely me that even with the right prompts, no one but me could direct the AI in this way.”
With new posts immediately earning hundreds of hearts and gushing commentary from fans, Erin is enthusiastically spiriting onward in this bold creative journey. Featuring real-life personalities ranging from King Charles, Taylor Swift, Martha Stewart, and Anderson Cooper to fan-favorite characters from Star Wars, Harry Potter, the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and The 96th Academy Awards ceremony, every Skrimp is a virtual masterpiece. With traffic on MeetTheSkrimps.com soaring, The Skrimps’ dedicated Instagram account also generates thousands of views daily.
From Erin’s point of view, the rising popularity of her creations is elementary. “With so much happening in the world that people have to deal with, The Skrimps are a human-centric but creative take on current events and news that is infused with lots of good humor,” she explains. “Whether it’s a character from real life or their favorite movie, these novel creations are giving fans a new appreciation for someone or something they love.
“At the same time,” she points out, “this is also a fascinating case study showing how AI can be used in a legitimate way to create unique creative content.”
While Erin’s interests are actively guiding her to new creations, she regularly chooses Instagram followers for Skrimping, and is wide open to bigger-picture developments. For example, until recently, Skrimps have only existed as online images. With the recent release of the first-ever animated Skrimp, Erin also recently delivered her Jeff Bezos Skrimp – the world’s first IRL edition – to Amazon’s Executive Chairman himself.
As the feedback waves roll in, fans are consistently expressing strong interest in The Skrimps becoming a series or a show. According to their creator, the combination of the nostalgic look infused with grown-up topics and humor is proving to be rocket fuel. “We are hitting the zeitgeist,” she says with a smile. “They want more.”
