After a five-year hiatus from the red carpet, Cameron Diaz made a stylish return at the Berlin premiere of her new movie Back in Action on Wednesday. The actress, who took a step back from Hollywood to focus on family and her business ventures, showed that she hasn’t lost her effortlessly cool, laid-back charm.
For her first red carpet appearance in half a decade, Diaz rocked a chic yet relaxed look. She paired a sheer black pussy-bow blouse with a sweeping black Gucci monogram coat, giving off a classic movie star vibe. Accentuating the look, she wore dangling gold-and-purple earrings and a bold red lip. But staying true to her California roots, Diaz balanced the glamour with a pair of slouchy dark-blue barrel jeans and comfy black leather loafers, keeping things effortlessly cool.
She was joined by her Back in Action co-star Jamie Foxx, who sported a fun black-and-white striped suit and chunky black shoes, adding his own unique flair to the event. In the film, the duo plays retired CIA spies-turned-parents, Emily and Matt, who are pulled back into espionage after their secret identities are exposed. The action-comedy marks Diaz’s first film since 2014’s Annie, also starring Foxx. The two have a long history together, having first worked together in the 1999 sports drama Any Given Sunday.
Diaz, who took a break from acting to focus on her family life with husband Benji Madden and her organic wine brand Avaline, spoke about her return to the big screen in a recent interview with Empire. She revealed that she only agreed to Back in Action because of Foxx’s involvement, saying, “Seriously. I had other opportunities along the way, and I was always saying, ‘No. I’m not doing it, I’ve told you… What? Jamie asked? Jamie? Oh, I can do a movie with Jamie!’ ”
Over the past decade, Diaz has been focused on building a family and growing her wine brand with friend Katherine Power. The brand has seen considerable success, and in a 2022 interview, Diaz shared how her life had changed since stepping away from Hollywood. “My life is just completely different than when I was making movies,” she said, mentioning that her lifestyle now involves less travel, more sleep, and clearer skin from wearing less makeup.
Although Diaz isn’t certain if acting will be a permanent return for her, she remains open to the idea. In her Empire interview, she explained, “If I say it, then it becomes this thing. I reserve the right to say no to doing a movie ever again, and I reserve the right to say yes if I decide to. I’m not defining anything. I’m just open to whatever makes sense for me and my family at any given moment.”
For now, Diaz seems to be enjoying her return to the spotlight, and her style proves that no matter how long she’s been away, she still knows how to make a statement.
