After completing her Las Vegas residency and gearing up for an upcoming series in Munich, Adele has decided it’s time for a hiatus from music.
In an interview with German broadcaster ZDF ahead of her Munich residency, the renowned singer confirmed that she has no immediate plans to release new music following her 2021 album, “30”. Reflecting on her exhaustive performance schedule, Adele admitted feeling emotionally drained and in need of a significant break to replenish her creative energy.
“My tank is quite empty after all these performances,” Adele shared candidly. “I don’t have any plans for new music at all. I want a big break after all this and I think I want to explore other creative avenues for a while.” She added, somewhat surprisingly, “You know, I don’t even sing at home at all. How strange is that?”
Earlier, Adele had hinted to her audience during a Las Vegas performance in January that her fans should expect a prolonged wait for her next album. She expressed a desire to step back from album-writing for the foreseeable future.
While Adele didn’t specify her new creative pursuits, Forbes reported last year that she had secured a trademark in the U.K. for a venture named The Shelbourne Collective Limited, categorized under “specialized design activities”.
In the interview, Adele also opened up about her complex relationship with fame, acknowledging that she yearns for the anonymity she once had before fame found her. “I don’t like being famous,” she confessed. “I love making music and sharing it with people who appreciate it, but the fame aspect of it—I absolutely detest. I miss everything about who I was before all this.”
Adele’s enduring popularity has prompted Munich to construct a bespoke pop-up stadium for her 10-show residency in August. She announced the residency on Instagram earlier this year, expressing both surprise and excitement at the opportunity to perform in a unique venue in the heart of Europe.
“I was too curious not to explore this idea—a one-of-a-kind pop-up stadium tailored to whatever show I want to put on? Ohh!? Right in the heart of Europe? In Munich? That’s a bit unexpected, but absolutely fabulous!,” she shared enthusiastically.
