Ali Krieger, celebrated as a two-time World Cup champion and Olympic athlete with nearly a million Instagram followers, has always been a trailblazer on and off the soccer field. Despite retiring from professional play in 2023, Ali remains deeply connected to her soccer community and is now spearheading efforts to address the longstanding issue of limited women’s sports merchandise availability.

Partnering with Klarna, TOGETHXR, and the Sports Innovation Lab, Ali launched the Rep Her initiative. This initiative aims to raise awareness about the gender disparity in sports merchandise through a new data report. Additionally, they’ve released a limited-edition merch collection that celebrates “a movement, not a moment,” with a portion of proceeds benefiting Billie Jean King’s Women’s Sports Foundation.

Reflecting on her career, Ali acknowledges the challenges female athletes face in accessing basic necessities like proper playing fields and apparel, let alone merchandise for fans. The disparity has been evident from the beginning of her career, with fans often unable to find jerseys or team gear they desire.

The partnership with Klarna and others aims to bridge this gap, highlighting that for every nine pieces of men’s sports merch, women’s sports typically have only one available. This disparity underscores broader gender-based inequities in sports.

Looking ahead, Ali advocates for greater visibility and support for women’s sports teams and athletes. She encourages fans to attend games, wear team merch, and use their platforms to amplify women’s sports. By doing so, she believes, communities can foster a brighter future for young girls in soccer and beyond.

Even in retirement, Ali remains committed to soccer and her community, emphasizing the importance of connection and support in sustaining the growth and success of women’s sports.

As Ali continues to champion gender parity in sports, her efforts with Rep Her pave the way for a more inclusive and equitable future in sports merchandise and beyond.
