Derrick White, currently playing for the Boston Celtics, has been selected to join the 2024 USA Basketball Men’s National Team for the upcoming Olympic Games in Paris. This announcement comes from USA Basketball, with Derrick White’s inclusion being confirmed by managing director Grant Hill.
The decision follows the withdrawal of Kawhi Leonard, previously named to the team in April. USA Basketball and the L.A. Clippers jointly determined that Leonard would best prepare for the upcoming NBA season instead of participating in the Olympics.
Grant Hill expressed his enthusiasm for Derrick White’s addition to the team, highlighting his recent NBA Championship win with the Boston Celtics and looking forward to his contributions in Paris.
In addition to Derrick White, the 2024 USA Men’s National Team includes NBA stars such as Bam Adebayo, Devin Booker, Stephen Curry, Anthony Davis, Kevin Durant, Anthony Edwards, Joel Embiid, Tyrese Haliburton, Jrue Holiday, LeBron James, and Jayson Tatum. This star-studded lineup brings a wealth of talent and experience to the global stage.
Derrick White, a seasoned NBA veteran with seven years of experience, played a pivotal role in the Celtics’ championship season. Known for his defensive prowess and all-around skills, White’s selection underscores his consistent performance and impact on the court.
Head coach Steve Kerr, alongside assistants Mark Few, Tyronn Lue, and Erik Spoelstra, will lead the 2024 USA Men’s National Team. This coaching quartet previously guided the team to a fourth-place finish at the 2023 FIBA Men’s World Cup and is poised to lead the team in pursuit of Olympic glory.
The 2024 Olympic Games, scheduled from July 26 to August 11, will see the USA Men’s National Team begin their campaign against Serbia in Lille, France, on July 28. The team will also face South Sudan and Puerto Rico in the group stage.
The preparations for the team include the USA Basketball Showcase, starting with an exhibition game against Canada at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, broadcast live on FS1. This series will serve as vital preparation for both the men’s and women’s national teams ahead of international competition.
As anticipation builds for the Olympics, Derrick White and the rest of the USA Men’s National Team are set to showcase their skills and aim for gold in Paris, representing the United States on the global basketball stage.
