Majed Ali has broken the glass ceiling and the stereotype that only females shine brighter with their talents as bakers. Over the years, the baking industry showed how females excelled in the niche, but no one really highlighted how men made their name count. Majed Ali is one name and a force to be reckoned with as a self-taught baker and recipe creator.
Wait a minute; there is more to Majed Ali than what meets the eye. He is a Dubai-based talent who has also shown his excellence as an Emirati food blogger and photographer, besides continuously rising as a top-notch baker. He recalls how everything began for him when a colleague of his introduced him to a Banana Bread, which drew him into this world, and since then, there has been no looking back.
He decided to share his recipes and baking experiences and, most importantly, his love for cooking with the world, starting his food blog and making it bilingual (both English and Arabic), which has allowed him to fight gender stereotypes and pursue his passion in the same. With food photography, he ensures to capture the intricate details and beauty of his baked creations, giving visual experiences that feel delectable and how.
He began by collecting cookbooks, watching videos online and consistently honing his baking skills with the aim of improving his craft. Later, he started his YouTube channel and, in the process, worked on his USP of incorporating the Middle-eastern influence of his on each of his dishes, taking cues from his childhood memories, life’s journeys, his dreams, adventures and the people he loves. This allowed him to create desserts with Middle-eastern flavors as a new take on the Middle-eastern desserts.
Majed Ali worked as a recipe developer for a national magazine, some food brands and as a food photographer, which motivated him to later start his own blog, The Cinnaman. He has won three Saveur Awards and published four articles so far for the magazine. Talking about his struggles and challenges, the phenomenal baker says that in the beginning, it was tough for him to showcase himself as a male baker in the Arab community since baking is seen as a talent more affiliated with females. However, to break this notion, he left no stone unturned in proving to the world that genuine talent has no gender, caste, background or any such parameters.
Majed Ali highlights that he aims to represent the hospitality of Arab food and bring people together from across the world through the power of genuine stories and flavorful food.
