James Sun went from being an unknown to becoming popular almost overnight–well, it seems like overnight for those who don’t know his story.
Back in 2017, Sun was working as a mechanical engineer, but he always felt that something was missing. One day, he saw a sand art video by AndrewClemens on the internet and knew he had found his calling.
He immediately quit his job and went back to China to learn everything hecould about sand art. In his homeland, he learned how to create 2D and 3D images using only coloured sand. Once he had mastered the craft, he came back to Canada and created his brainchild: FallingInSand.
If he had never followed his passion, we wouldn’t have had the fantastic art we drool over today.
Cool Art You Won’t See Anywhere Else
Making sand sculptures and castles may be one of the world’s oldest traditions, but James Sun gives it a modern twist. He creates truly unique works of art. He uses a single tool and his sense of design and symmetry to create sand art that is nothing short of stunning. FallingInSand has even been featured on Ripley’s Believe It or Not!
The Toronto artist uses a steady hand and detailed precision to create lifelike sand portraits and other designs. He has created depictions of celebrities like Chadwick Boseman, Taylor Swift, Tom Hanks, Kanye West, Kobe Bryant, and Angelina Jolie.
Fans love him and can’t get enough! The 34-year-old has 140K followers on Instagram and over 3.5 million followers on Tik Tok. Almost all his videos go viral–his portraits, logos, and his portraits of animals.
Big Brands Have Taken Notice
Back in 2018, Sun started filming his process, and people–as well as brands–started taking notice. His videos have been watched by millions of people and are relaxing and therapeutic. Sun has also worked with a myriad of extremely popular brands: Google,
Microsoft, Samsung, Apple, Amazon, Facebook, the NHL–the list goes on and on. In the last Super Bowl, he made art for all 32 teams. He’s also worked with world-renowned music brands like Universal Music UK.
He’s Now Entering the World of NFT Art with His Latest Project:
Sand Euro
Sun has made a name for himself in the world of art and loves conquering new territories. His latest project, Project Sand Euro, combines his two passions: art and soccer.
