Forget about monkey pox and the new covid variants circulating around at the moment! There is a new pandemic that is affecting millions of people who are working more remotely called “The Posture Pandemic”.
Since the start of the pandemic, there has been a digital surge causing more people to suffer from neck and back issues due to more time in front of the computers and phones from zoom calls, meetings, and events.
Here are my 5 Tips to Overcoming Pandemic Posture:
- Get off the chair– Since many of our meetings have gone remote it is incredibly important to make sure that we are standing more for meetings and if you are listening on conference calls, I suggest walking on a treadmill or outside to keep the blood flowing and not letting your back tighten up on you.
- Retract your shoulders– Sitting in front of the computer leads to your shoulders pulling forward. It is very important to constantly retract your shoulders at all times with or without using a band.
- Stretch your neck- When your neck is stiff your spine has to compensate to create mobility. Try and stretch your neck for 5-10 minutes in between zoom sessions.
- Bring your gym clothes– Always have your gym clothes ready because you can always work in a small workout into your day and it makes you more inclined to work out at end of day!
- Buy a tripod– The new term “text neck” refers to the sore necks people have from being on their phones. Try buying a tripod to alleviate having to hold your phone all the time.
