A transformative $1 billion renovation is in store for ‘The Star,’ a prominent high-rise located on Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood.
The real estate development firm overseeing the project has presented revised plans for the 22-story office tower. The updated design features a striking spiral structure that promises panoramic views of downtown Los Angeles, the iconic Hollywood sign, and the Pacific Ocean. Each floor will boast lush garden terraces, creating a seamless transition from the street-level entrance to a rooftop restaurant.
Renowned architect Norman Foster of Foster + Partners, based in London, has crafted the ambitious plans. Foster’s portfolio includes globally recognized landmarks such as the Gherkin skyscraper in London, the JP Morgan Chase Headquarters Tower in New York, Apple Park, Hong Kong International Airport, and the Millau Viaduct in France. The revamped ‘Star’ is anticipated to garner interest from both entertainment and tech industries, potentially serving as a coveted headquarters location.
Foster describes the office campus, situated on a two-acre lot at 6061 W. Sunset Boulevard, as a “true reflection of the workplace of the future,” fostering community, well-being, and collaboration to invigorate the city’s vibrant creative industries. Positioned across from the Old Warner Brothers Studios, now the Sunset Bronson Studios, and its Netflix-occupied 14-story office tower, the location enjoys proximity to the evolving Echelon Television Center, undergoing a $600 million redevelopment just a mile away.
Chief Executive Maggie Miracle of The Star LLC emphasizes the project’s evolution in collaboration with leaders from creative and tech industries, tailored to integrate seamlessly into Hollywood’s urban landscape. The office space boasts expansive indoor-outdoor areas, facilitating collaboration and innovation in elegant settings.
The announcement arrives amidst uncertainties in Hollywood’s office market, with shifting dynamics due to fluctuating content spending. However, developers led by The Star, a women and minority-owned firm, are banking on an urban design emphasizing natural light, ventilation, and outdoor spaces. Floor-to-ceiling windows offer panoramic views, while enhanced pedestrian experiences cater to the walking proximity of Metro stations and the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
In response to post-COVID considerations, prioritizing access to fresh air and outdoor spaces has become paramount, particularly for the entertainment and tech sectors. Although details on financing remain undisclosed, the project reflects a forward-looking approach to urban development in Hollywood.
