The inaugural release of Gunther Werks’ “Chelsea Grey” Commission, a 1996 Porsche 911, is hitting the auction block through RM Sotheby’s at the premier ModaMiami event. This unique vehicle, a modernized rendition of Porsche’s sought-after air-cooled 993-generation, is anticipated to command a staggering $1,300,000 USD upon auction closure.
Based in Huntington Beach, California, Gunther Werks has redefined the potential of the Porsche 993, seamlessly blending contemporary engineering feats with timeless design cues. Carbon fiber dominates the construction, with 80% of the interior custom-crafted, while the remaining components are sourced from new Porsche parts. Advanced suspension technology, including JRZ adjustable coilovers and a hydraulic front lift system, ensures both outstanding performance and aesthetic appeal.
Beneath the hood lies a transformed 4.0L engine, courtesy of Rothsport Road and Race, boasting race-spec internals and a MoTec engine management system for over 400 hp output. Enhanced with an upgraded Getrag G50 six-speed transaxle, the Chelsea Grey isn’t merely a showpiece but a formidable contender on the track.
Drawing inspiration from Porsche’s racing legacy, the Chelsea Grey Commission integrates Carrera RS-inspired features and a distinctive intake plenum. Its Chelsea Grey carbon fiber body enhances its widened profile, complemented by deep-dish Fuchs-inspired wheels and a bespoke LED light bridge at the rear.
Inside, the cabin exudes luxury with matte carbon fiber accents and red leather upholstery, showcasing meticulous craftsmanship in every detail, from the sports seats to the Alcantara-trimmed headliner. Bidding for this exclusive model, the first of only 25, is slated to begin on Saturday, March 2, with registration accessible via RM Sotheby’s official website.
