Schiaparelli kicked off the Spring Summer 2024 haute couture collections in Paris with a celestial spectacle, drawing inspiration from the astronomical discoveries of Giovanni Schiaparelli, the uncle of the fashion house’s founder, Elsa Schiaparelli. Giovanni’s pioneering work at the Brera Observatory in Milan in 1877, where he observed and documented the canals on Mars, served as the thematic foundation for the show.
Designer Daniel Roseberry’s “Schiaparalien” collection paid homage to the otherworldly, drawing from the family’s historical involvement in stargazing and astrology. The runway showcased garments and accessories that embodied a fusion of traditional Schiaparelli elements with futuristic, Martian-inspired motifs, such as a dress adorned with microchips and designs reminiscent of keyholes and locks, reflecting the maison’s enduring fascination with human anatomy.
Roseberry’s vision emphasized the harmonious coalescence of seemingly disparate elements, blending the legacies of the scientist and fashion designer, the uncle and niece, to create a captivating and innovative aesthetic that is quintessentially “Schiaparelli.”
Among the notable attendees were Euphoria stars Zendaya, exuding a striking new look with sleek, short bangs and an all-black ensemble, and Hunter Schafer, captivating in a black gown complemented by a statement floral-motif necklace in gold. However, it was Jennifer Lopez who stole the spotlight with her dramatic entrance, donning an ultra-voluminous white overcoat crafted from 7,000 real rose petals, preserved and nourished with sugar water, evoking an ethereal and surreal presence on the runway.
