The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have released a statement addressing the devastating wildfires currently ravaging Southern California, particularly in Meghan’s hometown of Los Angeles. The fires have scorched nearly 30,000 acres, forced the evacuation of over 100,000 residents, and led to the tragic deaths of five people.
“In the last few days, wildfires in Southern California have raged through neighborhoods and devastated families, homes, schools, medical care centers, and so much more – affecting tens of thousands from all walks of life,” the statement read. “A state of emergency has been issued. If you feel compelled to help, here are some resources and ideas.”
In their message, Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan highlighted several organizations working on the ground to support those affected, including José Andrés’s World Central Kitchen, CAL FIRE, LA Fire Department Foundation, Animal Wellness Foundation, and many more. They also encouraged the public to take action by helping their neighbors. “If a friend, loved one, or pet has to evacuate and you are able to offer them a safe haven in your home, please do. And be sure to check in with any disabled or elderly neighbors to see if they need help evacuating,” they advised.

Additionally, the couple recommended donating essential items such as clothing, children’s toys, and other necessities, as many families have been left without the basics.
While Prince Harry and Meghan live in Montecito, approximately 100 miles from Los Angeles, there are concerns that the area’s high fire risk could lead to power shutoffs, as reported by the Independent. Despite being out of immediate danger, the Sussexes continue to offer their support to the local communities affected by these catastrophic fires.
