Charlie Hunnam has been cast to portray the infamous murderer and body snatcher Ed Gein in the upcoming third season of Ryan Murphy’s Netflix anthology series, Monster.
The announcement was made during the Los Angeles premiere of Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story, which is the second season following DAHMER. Hunnam will take on the chilling role of Gein, who was known as the “Butcher of Plainfield” and the “Plainfield Ghoul.” Gein terrorized his hometown of Plainfield, Wisconsin, from 1947 to 1957, famously exhuming corpses from graveyards to create macabre keepsakes. He confessed to murdering two women, though authorities suspect he may have been responsible for more deaths.
Before Hunnam’s portrayal of Gein hits screens, fans can look forward to The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story, which premieres on September 19. This season focuses on the true story of the Menendez brothers, who were convicted in 1996 for the murder of their parents. The prosecution argued that Lyle and Erik killed their parents for their inheritance, while the brothers have maintained that they acted out of desperation after enduring years of physical, emotional, and sexual abuse.
Stay tuned as Monster continues to explore these dark and compelling narratives.
