Greta Gerwig’s film “Barbie” stole the spotlight at the 14th annual Guild of Music Supervisors Awards, clinching top honors for best music supervision for a film budgeted over $25 million, and best song written and/or recorded for a film.
The accolades were swept by George Drakoulias, who not only secured both awards but also won for the captivating track “What Was I Made For?” performed by Billie Eilish and written by Eilish and Finneas O’Connell. The talented siblings graciously accepted the award on stage, adding to the film’s triumph.
Frankie Pine emerged victorious with two awards for her exceptional work on “Daisy Jones & The Six,” while Alex Hackford also claimed dual victories for his contributions to Marvel’s “Spider-Man 2” video game.
In a touching tribute, the late Robbie Robertson, composer for “Killers of the Flower Moon,” was posthumously honored with the Icon Award, commemorated through a soulful performance of his music by Margo Price, Rocco DeLuca, and Johnny Sheppard. Allan Mason was likewise celebrated with the Legacy Award.
The evening was further enriched by captivating performances, including Dan Wilson’s rendition of “It Never Went Away” from the Netflix film “American Symphony,” co-written with Jon Batiste, and India Carney’s emotive performance of “I Found You” from the Showtime series “The L Word: Generation Q.” D4vd added to the musical tapestry with their performance of “Romantic Homicide.”
An esteemed lineup of presenters, including Nia Vardalos, Ben Platt, and Mark Ronson, among others, added to the allure of the event, underscoring the industry’s collective celebration of exceptional musical talent.
