Cleon Peterson has departed from his usual small print releases with the launch of a new triptych set titled THE POSSESSED, limited to an edition of 125. In this collection, the Los Angeles-based artist presents a power struggle between two factions of humanoid figures, each depicted in either black or gold hues with white accents, all unified by a single dominant color palette.
Throughout his career, Peterson has consistently explored themes of violence and the pursuit of power, drawing inspiration from the history of civilization. His work often draws parallels to antiquity, with aesthetic references to the reliefs of Ancient Egypt and Greece, while also incorporating modern political figures like Donald Trump to caution viewers about the dangers of ignoring the lessons of the past.
Reflecting on the current state of the world, Peterson has expressed a sense of impending crisis, suggesting that humanity is on the brink of an unprecedented experience, signaling both an end and a beginning in the relentless human quest for power.
THE POSSESSED is a three-color hand-pulled screen print on 290gsm Coventry Rag paper with deckled edges. Each set of three prints is signed and numbered, limited to an edition of 125. Sized at 18 x 18 inches, the unframed artwork is available for purchase at $300 USD.
