AOC argues against TikTok ban in video on the controversial app

In a video uploaded on Twitter, Representative Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez fought against a proposed ban on the social media app TikTok.

She noted how a TikTok trend helped encourage young people to show up to the former president Trump's rally in Tulsa last year.

According to Ocasio-Cortez, the app has been a crucial platform for underrepresented communities' creative expression.

nstead of outright banning the app, Ocasio-Cortez asked the administration to concentrate on strengthening regulation and data privacy laws.

She suggested that young creators who depend on the app for revenue and exposure would be disproportionately affected by a prohibition.

Ocasio-Cortez said that such choices ought to be made through the legislative process and questioned the use of executive orders to impose app bans.

Although acknowledging the worries about TikTok's connections to China, Ocasio-Cortez noted that a ban might not be the best course of action and might even have unforeseen repercussions.

Online comments on the video were divided, with some supporting Ocasio-claims Cortez's and others claiming that the program posed real security threats.
